Does WIRECARE function as a voltage tester?
No, WIRECARE determines the degree of wear for sockets or circuits by measuring load impedance, whereas a voltage tester checks the location of live wires and detects electrical leakages.
Should all sockets be tested by WIRECARE? Or testing one is sufficient?
Please test all sockets. Since each socket has a different usage, the condition of wearing will also vary. Testing only one socket will not detect the status of all other sockets.
Can WIRECARE be used with an extension cord?
Yes. You can first test the socket to be used by the extension cord, then test the sockets on the extension cord. Please note that the extension cord itself is also a load. If you connect multiple extension cords, you may observe higher load impedance than usual.
Can WIRECARE be used with a travel adaptor to inspect sockets and wires in different countries?
YES, WIRECARE can be used in countries using 100-240V/50-60Hz. However, a travel adaptor itself is a load impedance. Therefore, the quality and status of the travel adaptor can also affect the testing result.
Can WIRECARE stay on the socket?
Yes, although we recommend storing your WIRECARE in a dry environment after each use, to free up more sockets. To retest the socket, simply press the test button on WIRECARE again.
How Many Light Colors are used by WIRECARE?
There are 3 light colors: green for excellent, orange for warning, and red for dangerous.
Why are light colors shown in segments?
This allows WIRECARE to accurately present the wear level of outlets or circuits. For example, 8 green lights indicate a condition better than 7 green lights.
What does it mean when all lights are in red and flash 3 times?
It is the overheating warning. When the system detects an environment temperature higher than 60°C, all 8 lights will flash 3 times and then stay red, and the usual testing process will be canceled. It will automatically reactivate the test once the temperature drops below the overheating threshold.
What does it mean when all lights are in orange?
It is the warning for abnormal conditions of sockets or power. Power companies usually wouldn’t steadily supply power fluctuating between 100~240V/50~60Hz. Therefore, when the “voltage is lower than 90V or higher than 250V” or the “frequency is lower than 40Hz or higher than 70Hz,” all 8 LED lights are shown in orange and WIRECARE stops the usual testing process.
What does it mean when all lights are flashing in green and red?
It is the device malfunction alert. If the system detects any anomaly in the internal loading resistors or the MOS switch is malfunctioning, all 8 LED lights will flash in green and red, and the usual testing process will be canceled.
What does it mean when WIRECARE lights up all green lights without flashing?
It indicates the following special situations:
1.he power supply of the socket is too weak for the program to detect the frequency of the AC sinusoidal during the test.
2.The old wires in the wall have deteriorated too much, causing an unstable power supply, thus the test procedures couldn’t be completed.
3.On the same power supply circuit, electronic appliances of high power usage may be disturbing the test. We recommend removing or shutting down such appliances nearby before restarting another test.
When the light is orange/red after testing an extension cord, should I change the socket or the extension cord?
Before testing an extension cord, please test the socket used by the extension cord first. If the light is green for the socket test, but is still orange/red for the extension cord test, it means that the load and impedance on the extension cord are becoming higher. High-power products are not recommended to be used with this extension cord.
When the light is orange/red after a socket test how can we determine whether the impedance is too high because of the socket reed or the rear circuit?
When the orange/red light is on, it means possible aging of the socket or the circuit, or the impedance is too high. Use the following two steps to verify :
1. Change the socket first (based on our testing experiences, 90% of the aging problems come from the sockets).
2. If the testing light is still red/orange after having the socket changed, it indicates aging of the rear loop. You will need to schedule a rewiring.
IS WIRECARE waterproof?
No, WIRECARE is NOT waterproof. Please avoid leaving WIRECARE near water, fire, or direct sunlight, and keep it in a cool and dry place.
Does WIRECARE get overheat?
WIRECARE is equipped with a thermal sensor and has a mechanism to avoid overheating. Therefore, when used repeatedly in a short period, WIRECARE might be temporarily disabled to prevent overheating. Please wait a while for WIRECARE to cool down before the next test.
How often should I use WIRECARE?
We recommend testing your sockets and circuits at least once a month, especially in times with high power usage(e.g. summer, winter).
Does WIRECARE have product safety certifications?
Yes. WIRECARE currently has CE FCC and RoHS safety certifications.
Does WIRECARE require recalibration every year?
No, WIRECARE tests the wear of sockets and circuits by measuring the current load impedance. WIRECARE can measure the electrical resistance and conductance of all wires. This method does not require calibration for different wires.
Can WIRECARE be disassembled and fixed by myself if it is out of order?
No. Disassembling WIRECARE will void the warranty. If the product is still under the 2-year warranty, please contact retailers for maintenance service.
What does the warranty cover?
Every WIRECARE is under a 2-year warranty since the purchase date (refer to the instruction manual for details), and covered by an NTD 10,000,000 product liability insurance internationally.
Can it be used to test all AC power sources?
This product is designed and tested for sine wave AC power provided by power companies. It is not applicable for non-sine wave AC circuits, such as the non-sine wave AC power output from a frequency converter or UPS.
Can it be used to test PDU?
The PDU (Power Distribution Unit) is equipped with the circuit protection function against lighting and surge, or current limiting, such as common-mode or differential mode filter circuits. It has electrical impedance, which leads to high electrical impedance in the test result of such circuit, showing one red light. Thus, this product is not applicable to circuits with a filter circuit at the front.
Will WIRECARE's measurement accuracy be influenced if GFCI Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) is installed in circuit?
GFCI detects the difference between input and output currents. Input current is nearly the same as output when there is no electric leakage. Once the current difference becomes larger, it means that electricity is leaking and triggers GFCI to shut off the switch. Both currents are measured by a current loop which does not affect WIRECARE's resistance measurement.
Can WIRECARE check UPS? Is it normal to have orange/red signals in checking the UPS?
It is not recommended to do so. WIRECARE is designed to check wires instead of an appliance or an equipment. The switches and relays insides the UPS generate resistance, so orange/red signals are displayed.
Is it normal to have orange signal while testing a newly purchased extension cord?
It may or may not be normal. Since extension cord has its own resistance; WIRECARE measures the overall resistance across extension cord, plug and the wiring that connects to it.
An orange signal indicates a higher resistance is measured. In addition, it is necessary to check whether a high-power appliance is plugged to the extension cord. It doesn't mean that there are problems on the newly purchased cord.
The measured result will be different if the extension cord is plugged into an outlet with a lower resistance. The influence to resistance is also different due to their design and materials.
An extension cord is regulated to carry lower than 1650W of power; also, extension cord's resistance is not a majorly regulated factor. Hence the WIRECARE's measure result may differ on various outlets.
WIRECARE does not judge extension cord individually, it reminds users to pay more attention in using high-power appliances.
There is only a two-pin socket on WIRECARE. If we plug WIRECARE into a three-pin socket, will the result be accurate?
Compared to a two-pin socket, the third hole in a three-pin socket is the ground wire, which is designed to prevent short circuits or leakage in electrical appliances or power supplies. It is not energized. If there is no ground wire, it will not affect the normal operation of electrical appliances. WIRECARE measures the resistance in the wire through the energized live wire and neutral wire, so the ground wire, which is not energized, will not affect the test results. Therefore, whether using a two-pin or three-pin socket, the detection results of WIRECARE are accurate.
